Betty Tchomanga færir okkur fyrstu fjóra þættina í verkaröðinni Decolonial (Hi)stories og nýtir sér pólitískan mátt leikhússins til þess að miðla þekkingu með því að koma hlutunum á hreyfingu. Í fjórum sögutímum fáum við að kynnast nýlendusögu sem teygir sig heimsálfa á milli. Við ferðumst í tíma og rúmi frá Frakklandi til Benín, með viðkomu í Alsír og Eþíópíu, fyrir tilstilli líkama, radda og einstakra sagna þeirra Emmu Tricard, Folly Romain Azaman, Dalilu Khatir og Adélaïde Desseauve aka Mulunesh.

Hvernig er sögunni miðlað? Frá hvaða sjónarhornum? Hvernig tölum við um nýlendusöguna í dag?

Á sögum þeirra, sögum okkar, eru bæði sameiginlegir og ólíkir fletir, en í þeim má heyra óvænt bergmál sem ljær okkur nýjar leiðir til að tengjast hvert öðru.

Decolonial (Hi)stories #Parallel Portraits er hluti af R.O.M (Residencies On the Move) með boði frá le joli collectif – Théâtre l’Aire Libre í Frakklandi.

In bringing together the first four episodes of the Decolonial (Hi)stories series, Betty Tchomanga takes up the political dimension of theater as a place for transmitting knowledge by setting effects in motion.

Four history lessons in which we discover a colonial history shared by several continents. From France to Benin, via Algeria to Ethiopia, this journey through time and space is made through the stories, bodies, voices and singular histories of Emma Tricard, Folly Romain Azaman, Dalila Khatir and Adélaïde Desseauve aka Mulunesh.

How is history transmitted? From what points of view? How do we talk about colonial history today? Between their stories, between our stories, commonalities or differences resonate, unexpected echoes strike us, creating other ways of connecting with each other.

Decolonial (Hi)stories #Parallel Portraits is part of R.O.M (Residencies On the Move) at the invitation of le joli collectif – Théâtre l’Aire Libre in France. R.O.M is supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe programme, as well as by the Conseil des arts de Montréal.

Originally programmed by Moving in November in Helsinki, the work continues its tour to Reykjavík Dance Festival through a collaboration between the two festivals. The presentation in Reykjavík is supported by the Icelandic-Finnish Cultural Foundation as part of a joint initiative to strengthen Nordic cooperation and develop more sustainable touring practices.
