RDF 2023 - Feminist Futures

Inspired by the idea of Feminist Futures, this year's programme attempts to reflect on issues of inclusivity, care and sustainability. The unique history of dance in Iceland is the history of predominantly female and queer bodies and voices. Who better to give us a glimpse into what potential Feminist Futures might look like?

This year you can attend our free Feminist School, practice empathy by stepping into shoes of today's teens (Secrets - Ásrún Magnúsdóttir), those going through menopause (When the Bleeding Stops - Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir) or those that practice dance as self-defense (Repertório N.2 - Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira). Explore possible Feminist Futures through an intense punk concert (Neind Thing - Inga Huld Hákonardóttir), techno-organic storytelling (Fabulation - Bára Sigfúsdóttir and Orfee Schuijt) or a commemoration of a longtime collaborator and a dear friend (IBM 1401 – A User’s manual (in memoriam) - Erna Ómarsdóttir & Jóhann Jóhannsson). Dance with your friends and family (Baby Rave - Dance For Me / DJ Ívar Pétur), get a babysitter for the best parties in Reykjavík or hunker down for a Sunday movie (Post Performance Blues Band).

This year's festival is part of a four year project apap – FEMINIST FUTURES. The project, which is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, aims for an ambitious undertaking: initiate powerful social changes through art. The main goal of the project is to address inequality in the contemporary Performing Arts, using the body of thought consolidated by the term Intersectional Feminism to find concrete structural answers and raise public awareness.  (More about apap – FEMINIST FUTURES here).
