EPICLOGUE

Í EPICLOGUE spretta fram rætur, sögur og frásagnir sem verða að nýjum goðsögum. Út frá hugmyndum um ósæranleika er hér skapað rými þar sem hinsegin líkömum leyfist að vera sterkir, sýnilegir og ráðandi. Í verkinu er því velt upp hvers það krefjist – jafnvel kosti – að eigna sér rými sem er gefið öðrum. Í EPICLOGUE ögrar listafólkið þröngsýnum viðhorfum gagnvart hinsegin líkömum og dregur fram hvað það þýðir að vera hinsegin í sís-heterónormatívu samfélagi.

Markmiðið með verkinu er að ljá hinsegin líkömum sýnileika sem við höfum sjálf aldrei upplifað. Um leið og við höfnum hlutverki hins auðsæranlega ímyndum við okkur veruleika þar sem viðtekin gildi hafa liðið undir lok. Við leitum nýrra möguleika þar sem það sem er mætir því sem hefði getað orðið.

Í EPICLOGUE sjáum við náin kynni þar sem líkaminn öðlast hugrekki og vilja með því að upplifa ást, væntumþykju og gagnkvæmt traust. Við helgum okkur ókönnuð svæði, í áþreifanlegu og tilfinningalegu landslagi þar sem líkamar sameinast og umlykja hvor annan, með öllu ósigrandi.

Køteren og Terrieren (NO/DK) er listrænt tvíeyki þeirra Bjørk-Mynte Paulse (hún) sem er dönsk listakona, búsett í Kaupmannahöfn, og Jonathan Ibsen (hann) sem er danskur listamaður, búsettur í Osló.

Listsköpun þeirra hverfist um að ögra og setja spurningarmerki við hið viðtekna. Með augum brúnnar trans konu og hvíts, gagnkynhneigðs karlmanns rannsaka þau veröldina sem við búum í, til þess að skilja og setja í samhengi ákveðnar áskoranir sem tengjast kynhlutverki, kynhneigð og sjálfsmynd. Með forvitni og óhamda nálgun að vopni leitast þau við að tengja, ögra og kveikja samtal. Þau notfæra sér dans til að sviðsetja veruleikann sem við lifum við; til að finna annars konar rými þar sem frásögn og framtíð getur undið fram á nýstárlegan hátt.

Þau hafa sérstakan áhuga á samruna þess sem er og þess sem hefði getað orðið. Í verkum sínum skoða þau hvernig nánar upplifanir og skilning má endurskapa með því að sniðganga viðteknar hugmyndir um tímann. Með því að afbyggja, endurbyggja og endurskrifa hið „kunnuglega“ reyna þau að skapa rými fyrir vangaveltur sem síðan taka á sig áþreifanlegt, líkamlegt form.

Þau hafa helgað sig listsköpun sem þorir að setja brýnustu málefni samtímans í öndvegi. Í verkum sínum reyna þau að brjóta niður múra og öðlast dýpri skilning á því flókna samspili þátta sem móta sjálfsmynd okkar og samfélag. Þau bjóða okkur að taka þátt í hugleiðingu og samtali um strúktúrana sem skilgreina okkur og hamla, í því augnamiði að opna á nýja möguleika.

EPICLOGUE presents beginnings, tales, histories and forms new myths. Through the idea of invulnerability, Epiclogue carves out space for the queer body to be strong, visible, and dominant. The performance examines what it requires—or perhaps costs—to take up space that is granted to others. EPICLOGUE challenges restrictive mindsets sorrounding the queer body and responds to what it means to exist as queer in a cis-heteronormative society. 

The projects ambition is to render queer bodies visible in ways we ourselves haven't seen before. By rejecting the role of the vulnerable, we fantasize about a speculative reality where familiar norms no longer exist. We search for possibilities in the meeting point between what is and what could have been. 

In EPICLOGUE, intimate encounters emerge, where bodies find courage and will through love, care, and trust in one another. We navigate through a universe in which we lay claim to uncharted ground, a physical and emotional landscape where bodies unite and envelop one another in boundless invincibility.

Køteren og Terrieren (NO/DK) is an artistic duo composed of Bjørk-Mynte Paulse (she/her) a danish artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark and Jonathan Ibsen (he/him) a danish artist based in Oslo, Norway. 

Their artistic interest lies in challenging and questioning societal norms. Through the lens of a trans woman of color and a white homosexual man, they examine the world we live in and aim to contextualize challenges surrounding gender, sexuality, and identity. With curiosity and an untamed approach their ambition is to engage, challenge, and create dialogue. With choreography as a tool, they attempt to re-stage the reality we inhabit, to find alternative spaces where stories, narratives and futures can unfold in new ways. 

They are interested in the intersection between what is, and what could have been. Their work explores how intimate experiences and understandings can collapse and reemerge in contexts that do not follow traditional understandings and notions of time. By deconstructing, rebuilding and rewriting the “known” they attempt to create space for speculations that themselves can take on tangible physical forms. 

They are committed to creating art that dares to bring urgent contemporary issues to the forefront. Through their work, they strive to break down barriers and foster a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics that shape our identities and society. Their work is an invitation participate in a reflection and dialogue around the structures that define and limit us, in the aim of opening up for new possibilities.
