Gakktu í bæinn og hlýjaðu þér með okkur í danspartý RDF. Það má búast við sjóðandi heitri, dáleiðandi dansstemningu á mörkum hita og kulda. Hvað gerum við með líkömum okkar? Hreyfum okkur? Hristum? Skreytum okkur? Hlustum? 

Þar sem hiti mætir kulda verður eldaður eins konar pottréttur, kryddaður með dansi, dulúð, tónlist og óræðni með dassi af kaótík.

Kanema og Luis munu draga fram dans-, tónlistar- og performance-menningu sem lendir oft á jaðrinum en fær nú að taka öll völd á nóvemberkvöldi í Austurbæjarbíói. 

Kanema og Luis sameinast í gegnum ástríðu fyrir tónlist frá ólíkum hlutum Afríku. Þau eiga sterkar rætur og persónulega tengingu við álfuna og hafa í gegnum árin fundið sameiginlegt tungumál í tónlist, dansi og performans.

Þau kynntust haustið 2023 í lokaverki Kanemu af sviðshöfundabraut Listaháskóla Íslands, Þegar ég sé þig, sé ég mig. Í verkinu safnaði hún saman listafólki sem deildi þeirri einstöku reynslu að eiga djúpa tengingu við tvo ólíka menningarheima og vann með persónulegar frásagnir, tónlist, dans, skáldskap og drauma til að sviðsetja heim þar sem leitast var eftir því að brjóta niður ósýnilega veggi milli menningarsköpunar og uppruna fólks. Luis tók einnig þátt sem dansari og performer í Þegar ég sé þig, sé ég mig II, í Borgarleikhúsinu í janúar 2026.

Síðan þá hafa þau haldið áfram að þróa samstarf sitt í gegnum tónlistina. Sem plötusnúðateymið Choconilla & DJ Lui hafa þau skapað sér sameiginlega hljóðheim þar sem amapiano, afrobeat, popp og önnur áhrif mætast. Þar eru þau ekki endilega að leita að fullkominni útfærslu heldur eftir einhverju sem gerist í rýminu: stemningu, orku, tengingu og ferskleika. 

Úr þessum sameiginlega hljóðheimi og áhuga á líkamanum, tónlistinni og því sem getur gerst þegar fólk kemur saman verður lokahófið á Reykjavík Dance Festival til. Kvöldið sækir í það sem gerist þegar tónlist, líkami og fólk fara að hreyfast saman. Ritúalískt, kraftmikið, stundum dáleiðandi, skrítið, og óútreiknanlegt. Hér er ekki endilega verið að leita að hinu fullkomna eða fágaða, heldur eftir tilfinningu og orku sem þarf við þurfum öll að losa út.

We all feel it. Outside, it’s cold, but inside, it’s boiling hot.

Come on in and warm yourself up with us at the festival’s closing night. Expect a steaming hot, hypnotic dance atmosphere somewhere in between heat and cold. What are we doing with our bodies? Moving? Shaking? Growling? Decorating ourselves?

In a world where heat meets the cold we will be cooking up something of a stew, seasoned with dance, mystery, music and ambiguity, with a dash of chaos.

Kanema and Luis will bring forward dance, music and performance cultures that often find themselves on the margins, creating a space for them to take over Austurbæjarbíó for one November night. Trembling, drums, singing and soul reading, tattoos, pole dance, and more.

Kanema and Luis came together through a shared passion for music from different parts of Africa. They have strong roots and a personal connection to the continent, and over the years they have found a shared language through music, dance and performance.

They met in the autumn of 2023, when Kanema was working on her final project at the Performing Arts programme at the Iceland University of the Arts, Þegar ég sé þig, sé ég mig. The work brought together artists who shared the unique experience of having deep connections to two different cultural worlds, working with personal stories, music, dance, poetry and dreams to create a world that sought to break down the invisible walls between cultural practice and people’s origins. Luis also participated as a dancer and performer in Þegar ég sé þig, sé ég mig II, at Borgarleikhúsið in January 2026.

Since then, they have continued to develop their collaboration through music. As the DJ duo Choconilla & DJ Lui, they have shared their own sonic world, where amapiano, afrobeat, pop and other influences meet. They are not necessarily looking for perfect execution, but rather for something that happens in the room: atmosphere, energy, connection and freshness.

The closing night at Reykjavík Dance Festival grows out of this shared sonic world and their interest in the body, music and what can happen when people come together. The evening explores what happens when music, bodies and people begin to move together. Ritualistic, powerful, sometimes hypnotic, strange and unpredictable. This is not necessarily about seeking perfection or polish, but about creating a feeling and an energy that we all need to release.

Access at Austurbæjarbíó is generally good. It is easy to enter and move around most areas. There are stairs into the main hall and to the second floor, but platform lifts serve all staircases, and visitors may operate them themselves.
There are no designated accessible parking spaces directly by the venue, but there is a drop-off zone immediately outside.
Three parking spaces are available on nearby streets.
