DEAR HUMAN BEING
Premiere September 1st @Tjarnarbíó
Dear Human Being.
Have you ever noticed how life goes in cycles? First you are a child, then you may beget children, who may beget children. You breath in, you breath out, in, out, endless repetitions, small and large, cycle after cycle. You need oxygen to survive, until you become completely deflated at the very end. Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. You are a part of nature and your life cycle is synchronised with her. You need her. Everything has effect, dear Human Being, and hopefully these thoughts will give you a new perspective on your position in the cycle of life.

Valgerður Rúnarsdóttir - is an icelandic choreographer and dancer.
Vala has been making her own work as well as dancing with and for others ever since her graduation from Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 1998.
In 2000, Vala started the choreographic duo Vaðall with Aðalheiður Halldórsdóttir, as they both shared the same interest in bringing the art form out side of the theatre and into new territories. Together they created site-specific pieces around Iceland and theatre productions for The Icelandic Dance Company and RDF.
Among the works Vala has choreographed on her own are Marine Fuzz (2011) and LUGGAGE (2014). Both works earned Vala a Gríma Award (The Icelandic Theatre Awards), for best choreography. Vala also collaborated with the musician Urður Hákonardóttir (GusGus) and dance artist Þyri Huld Árnadóttir and together they created Is it Real? (Gríma nominee for best choreography).
As a dancer, Vala has been working internationally all her career. She worked for many years, creating and performing the work of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet for Cherkoui’s company, Eastman. She has also worked with Erna Ómarsdóttir and her company Shalala on various projects. Vala was a member of The Icelandic Dance Company for years and has worked with number of artists throughout her carrier of different sizes and in different mediums; in theatre, movies, fashion shows, commercials and all sorts of projects.
Along with dancing and choreographing, Vala has given workshops and classes in Iceland and over seas through Eastman. She has also been an active member of the independent dance scene in Iceland and involved in the development of RDF. She was also a board member of RDF and the Iceland Dancer’s Association.
