Firsts: BRÍET (presented by RDF & Lókal)

Firsts is a series of works by merging Icelandic dance and performance makers. The creators are Gígja Jónsdóttir, Guðrún Selma Sigurjónsdóttir, Anna Kolfinna Kuran and Björn Leó Brynjarsson. All the performances take place at Smiðjan, the student theatre of the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Presented by Reykjavík Dance Festival and LÓKAL

This dance piece is a tribute to the women’s rights activist Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir, who a hundred years ago fought so bravely for a more just society for women in Iceland. Bríet’s personal story is the inspiration for the piece as well as her achievements in the battle for women’t rights. All the performers are an active part of creating the piece along with the choreographer. We use texts, movement, music and singing in an attempt to deliver our interpretation of Bríet.
